Sibley County Public Health is NOT a COVID-19 testing site. Information on no-barrier community testing sites run by the State of Minnesota can be found here; additional testing locations throughout the state can also be searched here.

Currently, three vaccines are authorized and recommended to prevent COVID-19:

  • Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is for ages 5 and older. Two doses are needed, 21 days apart.
    • For children 6 months to 4 years, three doses are needed; 2nd dose is given 21 days after 1st dose and 3rd dose is given 8 weeks after the 2nd dose.
  • Moderna vaccine is for ages 6 months and older. Two doses are needed, 28 days apart.
  • Johnson & Johnson/Janssen is for ages 18 and older. One dose is needed.**

Booster Doses:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech: for ages 5 years and older, 1 booster recommended at least 5 months after final dose in primary series. Adults 50 years and older may get a 2nd booster at least 4 months after the 1st booster.
  • Moderna: Ages 12 and older, 1 booster dose at least 5 months after the final dose in the primary series. Adults ages 50 and older may get a 2nd booster at least 4 months after the 1st booster
  • J&J/Janssen: 1 booster, preferably Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine, at least 2 months after J&J/Janssen vaccine. Adults ages 50 and older may get a 2nd booster of either Pfizer or Moderna at least 4 months after the first booster

**In most situations, Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are preferred over the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine for primary and booster vaccination due to the risk of serious adverse events.** Learn more (Here)

*The CDC recommends that a single booster dose of bivalent Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (for individuals age 12 years and older) or bivalent Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine (for individuals age 18 years and older) be given at least 2 months after completion of a monovalent primary series or any prior monovalent booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine. View current recommendations (Here)

Bivalent mRNA vaccines are not authorized or approved at this time for primary series doses.
