Veterans Administration Burial Benefits

Burial Benefits

Veterans, surviving spouses, and dependent children may be eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery if they were in the military for the required period of time and were discharged under conditions other than Dishonorable. Benefits include grave site, a headstone or marker, U.S. flag, Honor Guard, opening and closing of the grave, and perpetual care.

Burial Allowances

Veterans who were receiving a VA disability benefit or were a patient in a VA Healthcare Facility at the time of their death are eligible for certain allowances to help cover funeral costs. They may also be eligible for a plot allowance if they are buried in a private cemetery.
